The simple fact that we can use our thumbs in complex ways and use our vocals for speech. Take in writing, building, inventing; its amazing what humans can truly do. The downside of all this? We’re programmed to do the opposite of what makes us unique.
Where I grew up if you wanted to be a writer you were a fool, if you wanted to be a basketball player then you were a dreamer, etc. Instead they tell you to pursue business, medicine, or law. Those are all great but what they don’t tell you is the ones that rise in them fields are the ones who’s talent lies there. If you take someone who is designed to be a writer and place them in the medical field he’s not going very far. Place him in law and he’ll never make it to the courtroom.
The truth is every great writer has spent thousands of hours writing. Encouraging him to write would of let him reach his goals that much sooner. My dad told me not to reach for the sky because I won’t make it, go to school and get a business degree because it’s safe.
It took me 30 years to figure out that was a lie. I was born to write, I hate the fact kids go through the same thing I went through. Telling a kid not to chase his dreams is the same thing as telling him not to live.
